  What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a holistic and multi-dimensional approach to pain relief and healing that has achieved remarkable results over the past 50 years.

Where did Bowen come from?

Tom Bowen, its originator, (1916-1982) from Geelong, Australia devoted his life to developing this gentle and innovative approach to pain relief that is now practised throughout the world.

He was well known for his dedication in treating the young and disabled.

Tom Bowen saw the underlying source of many muscular, skeletal, neurological and other health problems could be found in the soft tissue (fascia).

Fascia surrounds all nerves, bones, arteries, veins and muscles. Fascial dysfunction can affect every muscle, organ and nerve in the body.

Bowen is safe to use on anyone from the newborn to the elderly and on any condition from sports injuries to chronic complaints.

How does Bowen work?

A treatment consists of a series of gentle cross fibre moves over a muscle, tendon or ligament releasing “gluing” in the fascia, allowing the tissue to become more moveable through better hydration.

How can Bowen help me?

As the fascia improves in its hydration your body is able to better supply nutrients to your cells, and remove waste. There

will be less restriction on muscles, tendons and ligaments and the vascular, lymphatic and nervous systems will be able to function more effectively.

Your body has a natural ability to seek and maintain “homeostasis” (normality) in its function. Bowen, through restoring the balance of the internal environment assists the body in restoring its function and activity to normal.

Bowen Therapy has consistently shown it can have profound and permanent healing and pain relief outcomes. Benefits can include remission from pain, reduced stress, greater mobility, improved physical and emotional quality and enjoyment of life, increased energy, improved circulation, lymphatic drainage and detoxification.

Bowen Therapy has restored quality of life for many thousands of people throughout the world.

Conditions that have responded well include:
  • Sporting injuries
  • Acute and chronic pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Stress and tension disorders
  • Muscular-skeletal pain
  • Respiratory complaints
  • Digestive disorders
  • Infertility
  • Sciatica
  • TMJ Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Bed Wetting

Once your body is in tune, it is wise to have regular treatments in order to help maintain health and well-being.
