What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient method of healing that is performed by the laying on of hands. It is based on the idea that a universal life force is flowing through all of us. If one’s life force is low, we feel lethargic and are more prone to becoming sick. If one’s energy force is high, we feel happier, healthier and more alive. Through a practitioner’s hands, healing is channelled into the individual to increase the amount of life force available to him or her.
The term, “Reiki” is consists of two Japanese words, “rei” which means “higher power or universal wisdom”and “ki”, which refers to the life force flowing in all living beings. A Reiki treatment is done with patient sitting or lying down fully clothed. The practitioner moves their hands to different areas of the patient’s body. Healing energy is then directed into the body and moves to wherever it is needed. To the receiver, Reiki energy feels like a glowing warmth flowing in and around the body. As healing occurs, feelings of anxiety are often released. A sense of relaxation, well-being and peaceful security ensues. Any injured or weakened areas of the body are soothed. The benefits of Reiki are physical, mental, spiritual and emotional.
